Celtic away fan state of play as Parkhead insider provides update after two Premiership allocations

The Celtic supporters liaison officer has provided a key update on the state of play surrounding travelling Hoops fans.

And he told fans to "wait and see" if a small allocation could be provided for away fans when it comes to the August 29 derby at Ibrox against Rangers.

As of yet there is no uniform agreement for away supporters across Scottish stadia with clubs all in different positions when it comes to satisfying season ticket holders.

At Celtic Park the total of season ticket holders tops 50,000 and with 18,000 permitted into the most recent home fixture against West Ham it's only natural that clubs look after their own supporters who have plunged hundreds of pounds into the club despite a bitter end to last season.

But in the last few days it has been announced that two of this weekend's six opening Premiership fixtures will feature away allocations.

Hibs will be able to take a generous 2,000 fans to Fir Park as last season's third-place finishers face Motherwell.

And Double winners St Johnstone will head for the Highlands when they take on Ross County.

That led a number of Celtic fans to question whether they could be in line for their own away days sooner rather than later.

The opening day fixture at Hearts seems out of the question given the Jambos have not hosted a fixture with more than 3,000 present despite a season ticket roll of over 11,000.

The next away game is Ibrox and when questioned on that game, SLO John-Paul Taylor Tweeted: "Need to wait and see...."

August 9 is the date for full unlocking in Scotland although it remains to be seen how the country's biggest fixture will look after that date and it may just come too soon.

After that comes Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena on September 18 and that could be earmarked for a large travelling support.

Taylor added: "I believe that tickets to away fans is at the discretion of the home club, hopefully we'll start to see some tickets come for away matches soon."
