Celtic avoid mass self isolating nightmare after latest Scottish Government travel update

The latest Scottish Government travel regulations WON'T plunge Celtic into a self isolation nightmare.

Travel to and from the United Arab Emirates will cease from 4am Monday morning.

Of more pressing interest to Celtic iwas the stipulation that anyone who has arrived from the nation since 3 January must isolate for ten days.

Neil Lennon ’s squad flew into Glasgow on Friday and a controversial six day winter training camp in Dubai.

And the club confirmed earlier today that one of their players had tested positive since returning.

No other squad members or coaching staff did, but travel manifests are being checked to identify any close contacts who may still have to self isolate.

However, sports persons who have traveled abroad for 'elite training' are exempt from the automatic quarantine from 3 January.

Celtic’s Scottish Premiership clash with Hibs on Monday night will now go ahead, as will next Saturday's home game with Livingston.

A Government statement read: "Travellers returning from Dubai must quarantine on arrival in Scotland for 10 days from 4am on Monday (11 January). In addition, passengers who have travelled to Scotland from Dubai since 3 January are also being asked to isolate for 10 days, from the date they arrived back in the country.

"The change is due to a number of positive cases identified in passengers who have flown into Glasgow from Dubai since the new year. This preventative action addresses the significant rise in cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), and the increase in the numbers of cases testing positive in Scotland.

"Guidance remains clear that people should not be undertaking foreign travel other than in exceptional circumstances."
