Celtic are feeling the pressure of Rangers amid rumours of unrest - Hotline

The furore over Tom Boyd’s claims of bias from referee John Beaton on Celtic TV continued to take Hotline centre stage.

There was also criticism of football matters at Parkhead as the problems pile up ahead of Thursday’s Europa League play-off against AIK Stockholm.

Jim Kerr, Dennistoun, said: "Boyd just told the truth, pure and simple. All Celtic fans know that Beaton has an agenda against us and it's time someone said so publicly. It was Jock Stein who said if you play to your potential, the referee won't matter, but he also knew we had to play outside Scotland to get a fair crack of the whip."

David Wilkie, Millport, said: "Keith Jackson's excellent article on Boyd hit the nail and simply confirmed what most of the populace have surmised for some time.

"Why Celtic as a club continue to employ this person despite continued verbal vitriol in media circles is a complete mystery."

Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: "Boyd’s comments are laughable and are only designed to put pressure on the referee in the upcoming Old Firm game. We’ve not heard a peep about referees for years now but now that Rangers look to be capable of mounting a challenge, the Parkhead paranoia dirty tricks will start up again."

Ian Wilson, Wishaw, said: "It's a real lack of class from Boyd as he's shown himself to be as bad as the hysterical conspiracy theorists who love a good anti-Celtic agenda. He's been an embarrassment for a while now and is his comments do not reflect well on the club. They should boot him out before the SFA compliance officer takes him to task."

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “It seems referees can't have a quiet beer in pubs anymore without being red carded.”

Now to on-field matters at Celtic.

Michael Sheerin, Liverpool, said: "I'm frustrated at the lack of transfers into Parkhead and I don’t blame fans for not buying Europa League tickets for Thursday's game.

"Rangers have strength in depth all across the pitch but they also have great balance, Celtic lack both of these crucial factors and it could cost us against AIK."

John Bruce, emailed: “Are we witnessing turbulent times at Parkhead? The team has just won a treble Treble and hoovered up umpteen cups, they are favourites to win the league title and have spent around £13 million on new players to ensure that they do so. But there are rumours of unrest in the dressing room.

"Is the pressure of being overtaken by Steven Gerrard 's advancing blue express already beginning to take its toll at Parkhead?

Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, said: "At last fans are starting to cotton on to what I've been moaning about for years and it's John Kennedy. He played 28 games for the club and his reward was a testimonial match, umpteen testimonial dinners and a guaranteed job for life. He was defence coach for Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers and they conceded umpteen goals in Europe alone.

"That included some of the most embarrassing hammerings in the club's history."

Martin Baird, Glasgow, said: "Celtic fans are split over Neil Lennon ’s ability as a modern manager but they have zero options. Can they name just one single realistic alternative? No one seems to have any sensible option so it appears they’re stuck with him whatever happens."

Tim Gibbens, emailed: “I chuckled when I read Steven Gerrard’s remark that he didn’t think East Fife fans would have seen many better players than Joe Aribo at their ground. Methil diehards will surely recall that Sir Alex Ferguson once brought a practically full strength Manchester United side to Bayview for Jimmy Bonthrone’s testimonial in 1995 - a promising 20-year old called David Beckham netted twice that day."
