Celtic announce West Ham friendly as packed pre season schedule unveiled

Celtic have announced a friendly clash with West Ham as the club unveiled their full pre-season schedule.

The Parkhead side face a pivotal summer after their disastrous bid for 10 In A Row ended with Rangers reclaiming the Premiership title.

Eddie Howe is expected to be appointed new manager and the club have published plans for the coming weeks and months.

Celtic will head to Wales for a pre-season training camp in July and will play three closed door friendlies against Charlton Athletic, Bristol City and an unconfirmed third opponent.

Upon their return to Glasgow, the Hoops will take on Preston North End and then the high-flying Hammers - an intriguing clash which will fall between two legs of a Champions League second round qualifier.

A Celtic statement said: "Celtic today announced its first team pre-season arrangements, with a UK training camp lined up as well as a number of important pre-season matches arranged at both Celtic Park and away venues. And Davie Moyes’ high-flying West Ham United will visit Paradise to complete the Hoops’ pre-season programme.

"In preparation for the season ahead, from July 5-14, the first team will undertake a vitally important pre-season training camp in Wales, at a state-of-the-art world-class training facility.

"During the nine-day camp, Celtic will play three closed-door matches against English club opposition, offering crucial preparation for the new season:

  • July 7: v opposition tbc (KO: 3pm)
  • July 10: v Charlton Athletic (KO: 3pm)
  • July 14: v Bristol City (KO: 7:45pm)

"On returning to Glasgow, Celtic will then meet English Championship side, Preston North End, at Celtic Park on Saturday, July 17 (KO: 5.30pm).

"And following the Club’s UEFA Champions League qualifying match on July 20/21, we will then welcome the return of Davie Moyes to Glasgow on Saturday, July 24 (KO: 3pm) as Celtic meet his West Ham United side which has just secured an impressive sixth-place finish in the English Premier League.

"Clearly, we are encouraged by the recent announcement of supporters being allowed entry at sporting events across Glasgow this summer, including at Hampden and on Glasgow Green.

"Celtic has been at the forefront of the effort to get supporters back with us and now as we move back to normality, we are preparing to welcome you home to Celtic Park.

"We will be doing all we can to achieve this as soon as possible and will update all our supporters on developments as we look ahead to the new season."
