Celtic and their Invincibles world record points total that could be wiped out next week

Celtic lose another record this season as well as their ten-in-a-row dreams, with Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade poised to overhaul their world record points tally.

The Hoops set a new record four years ago for the number of points gained in a single season when they won 106 points in a 38-game campaign.

Celtic won 34 of the 38 league games that season and beat the previous world record which was claimed by Barry Town of Wales twenty years previously, earning them the 'Invincibles' tag.

However, Red Star Belgrade are now just two games away from beating that record after collecting 102 points in a remarkable season where they have only drawn three of their 36 matches and won the rest.

Red Star - managed by former Inter Milan and Lazio star Dejan Stankovic - have only an away match at bottom side Backa on Friday night and a home game against mid-table Metalac next week to play.

If they win them both, as expected, they will have 108 points out of a possible 114 and will beat the record set by Brendan Rodgers' unbeaten side, who drew only four games that season against Caley Thistle, Rangers, Partick Thistle and Ross County.

The Hoops scored 106 league goals that season and Red Star are two goals away from that too, having scored 104 goals in a superb season.

However, the Belgrade side may soon be looking for a new manager, with Sampdoria tipped to appoint Stankovic for next season.
