Celtic and the dismal Hibs away record Ange Postecoglou will have to change as Hoops look to scratch seven year itch

There hasn’t been much sunshine on Leith for Celtic in recent visits but there have been a few dark days.

Incredibly, the Hoops haven’t won in the league at Easter Road and if they fail again on Wednesday then it will be EIGHT years since their last victory.

That was back in January 2014 when a Kris Commons double, Virgil van Dijk and Teemu Pukki strike earned Neil Lennon’s men all three points on their way to another title.

The identity of the scorers - and the men in the dugout with Lennon’s opposite number that day Terry Butcher during his short-lived stint - shows just how far you have to go back.

Hibs of course fell out of the top flight that season and spent three years in the second tier but even allowing for that Celtic have still gone to Easter Road on seven occasions in the league and failed to win.

It’s quite a remarkable run for either of the Old Firm at any opposition ground and the biggest away day hoodoo for Celtic.

Yet they have had no such issues in cup competitions with a 5-2 League Cup win and 2-0 Scottish Cup success during that time.

Here, Record Sport Online looks at that miserable league run for Celtic as Ange Postecoglou takes his side across the M8 desperate for a win in their title hunt.

May 2021 - Hibs 0 Celtic 0

This goalless draw just summed up the end of a catastrophic campaign and the end of an era at Celtic.

A trophyless season and failed shot at an historic tenth title in a row ended on a dire note as legendary skipper Scott Brown played his final game for the club at the ground where it all started for him as a player.

With caretaker John Kennedy in charge for the final time, it was a frustrating 90 minutes as they dominated but failed to score in what was a familiar story in many games that season.

November 2020 - Hibs 2 Celtic 2

A thrilling four-goal encounter where the visitors snatched a point at the death but it was yet another blow to Celtic’s title hopes.

Neil Lennon’s men were trailing by a couple of goals as Jamie Murphy and Kevin Nisbet netted within seven second half minutes.

The Hoops did fight back through Odsonne Edouard’s penalty and Diego Laxalt’s injury time strike but it was undoubtedly two points dropped.

September 2019 - Hibs 1 Celtic 1

A stormy affair as Paul Heckingbottom was sent to the stand with his side holding the champions to a draw.

Hibs led through an early Kris Ajer own goal but that was cancelled out by Ryan Christie to earn the visitors a point.

Heckingbottom was raging at what he felt was a lack of sportsmanship from Celtic in the build-up to their equaliser and was red card for booting a water bottle.

April 2019 - Hibs 0 Celtic 0

The Hoops had been plunged into turmoil just a couple of months earlier after the sudden departure of Brendan Rodgers.

But Neil Lennon, who had earlier left Hibs in equally dramatic circumstances, had returned to Parkhead to see them through a turbulent time.

And he steered them to the title but was held to a goalless draw here after a Scottish Cup win on his return to Easter Road the previous month.

December 2018 - Hibs 2 Celtic 0

This was a third defeat of the season for the champions as their wobbly start to the campaign under Brendan Rodgers continued.

Vykintas Slivka struck after just 46 seconds and Florian Kamberi finished a superb second-half counter attack to seal the points and leave the Hoops third in the table after 16 games.

April 2018 - Hibs 2 Celtic 1

Celtic missed the chance to seal their seventh consecutive league title after slumping to defeat in Edinburgh.

But plenty of fans wouldn’t have had many complaints as it offered them the opportunity to wrap it up at home to rivals Rangers which they did in emphatic style in their next game.

Jamie Maclaren tapped in the hosts' opener in the first half and substitute Vykintas Slivka doubled their lead before Odsonne Edouard pulled back a late consolation.

December 2017 - Hibs 2 Celtic 2

Hibs Oli Shaw scores to make it 2-2 and it's game on (SNS Group)

A stunning late comeback from Neil Lennon’s Hibs side as they scored twice in the final 15 minutes to snatch a draw.

It was an epic encounter as ex-Hoops stopper Efe Ambrose’s deflected strike and an Oli Shaw goal cancelled out Scott Sinclair’s double.
