Celtic and Rangers trolled over Colt team plans as East Fife make cheeky April Fool's dig

A plan by Rangers and Celtic to put Colt teams into League Two has been mocked by East Fife.

The Premiership's top two are keen to field youth teams in the lower leagues of the SPFL, with plans drawn up for a 16 team fourth tier.

That would see Celtic and Rangers B teams added to the division, along with two teams each from the Highland League and Lowland League.

B teams are commomplace in Germany, Portugal and Spain, while Juventus have a youth squad in the Italian third tier.

The plans have proved controversial though, and East Fife used April Fool's Day to take a cheeky swipe at the proposals.

They wrote on Twitter: "East Fife FC are delighted to announce, that starting from next season (2021/22), East Fife U20's will be rebranded to East Fife FC - Colts.

"The EF Colts will start next season straight into an expanded SPFL League 2."

Under the plans the Rangers and Celtic sides wouldn't be able to be promoted above League One.

It's also forecast that clubs in the bottom two tiers would benefit by £100,000 over five years, though in other nations Colt teams have not brought big crowds.
