Celtic and Rangers tributes to Maradona as football icon dies aged 60

Rangers and Celtic have led tributes to Diego Maradona after the football icon died aged 60.

Argentinian genius Maradona - possibly the greatest footballer of all time - has passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard posted a picture of Maradona holding aloft the World Cup for Argentina, captioned: “RIP Maradona #10.”

Celtic also tweeted pictures of Maradona’s visit to Celtic Park in 2008, including one of him grasping the Hoops jersey.

The Parkhead side wrote: “A true football icon. Rest in peace, Diego Maradona. Legend."

Another picture features Maradona hoisting former Hoops youngster Adam Brown high into the sky after finding a precious medallion lost by Fernando Gago during an Argentina training session at Parkhead.

Maradona, then national team boss, rewarded starry-eyed 13-year-old Brown with his hat and gloves.

Gary Lineker and Usain Bolt are also among the long list of names that have paid tribute to the legendary former Barcelona star.

Olympic hero Bolt posted a picture of himself hugging Maradona, with the caption: “RIP to legend Maradona.”
