Celtic and Rangers transfer trouble as Clyde struggle with January incomings

Clyde assistant manager Alan Moore says the January transfer window is proving difficult for the Bully Wee.

Danny Lennon’s side were defeated 1-0 by League One leaders Cove Rangers on Saturday. Iain Vigurs’ strike 20 minutes from time sealed a narrow win for Paul Hartley’s men.

It ended Clyde’s six-game unbeaten league run, sitting sixth in the table and four points off a promotion play-off spot plus five points away from the relegation equivalent.

But Moore says the likes of Celtic and Rangers not loaning out their players makes things challenging in terms of strengthening the squad.

He said: “I would expect some to come in but it’s a case of whether we can get them in or not.

“January is very difficult to get players in who will improve the team.

“You don’t get players from Celtic or Rangers anymore due to their ‘B’ teams in the Lowland League. We are trying our best.”

Clyde’s next game is away to Peterhead, with Moore adding on the Cove defeat: “We are majorly disappointed. We have gone toe to toe with the team that is at the top of our league and I think we have created the better chances, albeit they were half chances.

“We are disappointed with the goal we conceded. We lose the ball in a silly area and good players punish you. Up until then, we more than matched them.

“We have a threadbare squad at the moment and we had to bring trialists in so we could fill the bench.

The boys have put in great effort. They have given us everything and we have got our rewards recently.

“I think we were six unbeaten in the league so this is a body blow. You could tell with the boys at half time that they were right up for it but I didn’t go into the changing room for a few minutes at the end as I was that upset with the way we lost it.

“We have got to do better.”
