Celtic and Rangers to learn their UEFA fate as governing body reveal agenda for crunch summit

UEFA have laid out the burning issues set to be addressed at a landmark summit next week.

European football's governing body will convene virtually on June 17-18 to decide how this season's Champions League and Europa League will be completed.

Bosses will also unveil how they plan to course correct a football calender wrecked by the coronavirus pandemic and stage next term's tournaments.

Rangers have still to complete their Europa League last 16 clash with Bayer Leverkusen, trailing 3-1 from the first leg.

The Ibrox club, rivals Celtic plus Motherwell and Aberdeen are also awaiting clarity on qualification rounds for 2020/21.

Champions Celtic will enter the Champions League while their three Premiership counterparts will be placed in Europa League qualifying.

Finishing this season's tournaments followed by planning for next are the top two items on UEFA's agenda, set to be addressed on the first day of the conference.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin will then address the media to reveal the way forward.

There's growing feeling that UEFA will attempt to conclude this season in the form of a "World Cup" style event.

It was reported on Wednesday that Frankfurt's Commerzbank Arena is currently their preferred choice for completing Europa League fixtures in August.

Steven Gerrard's side are stepping up their preparations ahead of the new season with an August 1 start date the plan for a Premiership return.

But Rangers could find themselves caught up in a continental adventure if they manage to overturn their first leg deficit against Leverkusen.

The likes of Manchester United and Wolves are also set to head to Germany with the tournament winners guaranteed a place in the 2021/22 Champions League group stage.

It's also understood that Lisbon is being eyed as a potential venue for Europe's premiere competition with the showpiece event taking place at the Benfica's Estadio De Luz - the host of the 2014 Final.
