Celtic and Rangers title question resurfaces as Serie A chief hints at UEFA plans to finish the season

The head of Serie A has hinted that UEFA are considering extending domestic seasons into July and August.

European football's governing body has laid out a timetable where domestic competitions will be completed by June 30.

But the Champions League and Europa League finals have been put on hold indefinitely, indicating that timetable may not be realistic.

That raises the possibility of having to end the season early, meaning a decision will have to be made about the destination of league titles.

That's already proving a controversial issue in Scotland, with Celtic 13 points clear of Rangers, and the head of Serie A has admitted seasons may not be finished.

But it appears talks are taking place behind the scenes to move the season into July and August.

Asked on Radio Marte about the latest possible date to finish this season's football, Gabriele Gravina replied: "It depends.

"It's harder for Italy because we have 13 games to catch up on and we'll also probably have to fit in European games.

"Right now it doesn't make sense to talk about dates.

"We need to be aware that to finish our league it will take 45-60 days.

"If we're granted the months of July and August, which UEFA and all the federations are moving toward, that could be the period we're talking about.

"Right now we have to focus on the fact that, from 2020-21, football can start again with enthusiasm and a new philosophy."
