Celtic and Rangers 'target' Thomas Robert would be a gamble, says Airdrie boss Ian Murray

Ian Murray is confident that Airdrie will keep hold of Thomas Robert in the January transfer window – because clubs would be taking a gamble on the French star.

Dundee United became the latest club to show an interest in the Frenchman, who has been scouted by Celtic and attracted interest from Rangers.

The 20-year-old has impressed since joining in the summer, netting four times in 13 appearances.

However, Murray says there’s a lot for him to learn before he’s the complete package.

He said: “I’m pretty confident [he will stay]. There’s a lot of publicity around Thomas, he’s done really well, but he’s only played about 12 or 13 games or something like that.

Ian Murray says he sees no reason for Robert to leave Airdrie (Craig Foy/SNS Group)

“He still needs to play more games and he’s playing at Airdrie, so I don’t see any reason why Thomas would want to leave at this stage, and I’m not sure that teams will take such a gamble on 13 games.

“There’s no question about it, he’s a talented player, and he has done really well.”
