Celtic and Rangers 'target' Thomas Robert looking unlikely to move from Airdrie in transfer window

Airdrieonians director of football Stuart Millar admits the lower league football suspension could help the Diamonds keep hold of star man Thomas Robert.

The French winger has reportedly attracted interest from Celtic, Rangers and Dundee United after his dazzling displays this season for the Diamonds.

However, with football below the SPFL Championship on hold until at least January 31, Millar believes that could change clubs' plans on making a move.

Scouts will be unable to get another look at the player for week and Millar said of the shutdown: “It might affect the planning of clubs looking at him, but it doesn’t affect us.

"We are very much a team and Thomas has made a smashing contribution when we've been successful in games.

"The only concern we have is the fitness of the players. You can't train as a group right now and we won't see them for quite a wee while.

"There's not much else to say on it at the moment."

Training for clubs is also off until the lower league get the green light to return and today's announcement by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon that the current lockdown has been extended until mid-February doesn't bode well for the game's swift return.

Fellow League One club Clyde have today put their players and some staff on furlough amid the uncertainty surrounding when the game could return.

It seems Robert could be a Diamond for a while longer.
