Celtic and Rangers stars' international exploits as Tom Rogic and Kyogo in action while Leon Balogun slip costs Nigeria

Celtic and Rangers stars will welcome a break for differing reasons.

Gers so they can come back refreshed and try to maintain their winning form at the top of the Premiership table, and Hoops so they can recharge the batteries and hope to charge up the standings.

But just how are they faring on the international stage?

Last night, several Celtic and Rangers stars in action for their country, but how did they get on?

Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo, Rangers & Nigeria

The Ibrox duo were involved in one of their country's biggest ever shocks - and not on the right end of it.

The Super Eagles lost a dramatic last minute winner as they went down 1-0 to the minnows of Central African Republic.

Balogun was heavily involved as the centre back's attempted clearance hit off Karl Namnganda who went on to score the historic clincher.

Balogun felt the wrath of fans for the late slip. Aribo was substituted with ten minutes to play and a third Ger, Calvin Bassey, was an unused substitute. Nigeria still sit top of their group.

Tom Rogic (Celtic), Australia

Another country who top their group are Australia, and they had a better time of it last night - particularly one SPFL star.

Hibs' main man Martin Boyle put the Socceroos 2-1 at home to Oman, and they went on to score another to make the win safe.

Rogic was involved in the build-up to that strike, with Adam Taggart's shot from his cut-back parried out to the Hibees wiger.

There was further Scottish interest with another ex-Easter Road man in Jackson Irvine starting along with ex-Dundee United defender Harry Souttar, former Celtic loanee Daniel Arzani and ex-St Mirren man Aaron Mooy listed as subs.

Fashion Sakala, Rangers and Zambia

A new signing at Gers, Fashion Sakala has yet to properly hit the ground running.

He started as his country had a man sent off and went down 2-0 to Equatorial Guinea.

Sakala was subbed off with ten minutes to play.

Kyogo Furuhashi, Celtic and Japan

Kyogo handed Celtic and Ange Postecolgou a boost after coming through his country's clash unscathed.

Postecolgou was sweating as his star striker went off on international duty, having come back from the previous cramp crocked.

But he was fine after playing the final 30 minutes, although he was unable to make a notable impact as Firas al-Buraikan scored the winner for Saudi Arabia on 71 minutes.
