Celtic and Rangers snubbed as Liverpool are named UK's favourite football club

Celtic and Rangers have failed to make the cut in a study of the UK's favourite football clubs.

Fans voted for the likes of Everton, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of the Glasgow sides.

The poll, which was conducted by YouGov Sport, was won by European Champions and Premier League champions-elect Liverpool.

Manchester United finished second, with Chelsea in third.

Wolves were seventh, Everton were ninth and Aston Villa finished tenth. Despite both clubs possessing global fanbases, neither Celtic or Rangers reached the top 10.

The study uses a FootballIndex tool, which takes into account the likability of clubs across 16 different metrics and draws on information from the general public.

FootballIndex tracks brand health as well as "engagement metrics like Word of Mouth, Buzz and viewing habits".

The report says: "Users can gauge the public’s perceptions of clubs’ management, players and coaches, fan culture, tradition and their record of success – even the attractiveness of their football."

Liverpool recently celebrated the first anniversary of their Champions League triumph, with the team that beat Tottenham Hotspur featuring Scotland captain Andy Robertson and former Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.
