Celtic and Rangers sent message by Lyon boss ahead of friendlies

Lyon boss Rudi Garcia insists he will field his strongest side against Celtic and Rangers in their upcoming friendlies against the Glasgow clubs.

The Old Firm rivals will travel to France next week to take part in the Veolia Trophy with hosts Lyon and Ligue 1 side Nice.

The Ibrox club will take on Lyon first on Thursday, before Celtic face off against them on Saturday.

And Garcia warns he won't be scared to unleash the likes of former Hoops talisman Moussa Dembele on them, but has hailed the quality of the Premiership pair.

He told the Daily Record: "Preparation is essential and no friendly games will be played.

"Playing against Rangers and Celtic, two high-level teams in Scotland, is exactly what we are looking for.

"They are two fantastic opponents for us at Groupama Stadium, even if, unfortunately, we will not be able to play with as many supporters as we wanted."

Rangers ramped up their pre-season plans with a 2-1 win in a bounce game against Hamilton on Friday.

They have Lyon and Nice up next, before returning to Glasgow to take on Motherwell at Ibrox and then concluding their preparations for the new season with a clash against League One champions Coventry City.

Celtic will stay in France a little longer as Neil Lennon's men take on PSG at Parc Des Princes on July 21.
