Celtic and Rangers season up in the air as Scottish Government consider pausing game

Scottish football could be paused again following the latest incident involving rules being breached.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli went to Spain on holiday without informing his club. He then failed to isolate when he returned to the country and came on for the final three minutes of Celtic's 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

News of Bolingoli's breach comes just days after eight Aberdeen players apologised for visiting a pub after their 1-0 defeat against Rangers, with two players testing positive for Covid-19 and six others forced to quarantine for 14 days.

Those incidents have prompted fears that Scottish football could be paused again, with the new Premiership season only two weeks old.

Speaking in the Scottish Sun, a Scottish Government spokesman said: “The Scottish Government is aware of reports of a Celtic FC player having broken quarantine rules last week.

"We are currently in discussion with the club and football governing bodies to establish the facts.

“If confirmed as another serious incident within Scottish football, where protocols have been breached at the risk of wider public health, then the Scottish Government will have little choice but to consider whether a pause is now needed in the resumption of the game in Scotland.”
