Celtic and Rangers return update after latest round of coronavirus tests find no positive cases

The return of the Premiership is well on track after it's been revealed no players have tested positive for covid-19 this week.

Scotland's top flight is set to start back on August 1 as a total of 1055 players and staff members were tested for the virus.

And the latest round of results will come as good news for that timeframe as no positive cases were found.

A statement read: "The Joint Response Group can confirm that between Monday 6 July and Sunday 12 July, a total of 1055 Scottish Premiership players and team staff were tested for COVID-19, with no positive results recorded

"The Joint Response Group will provide this information weekly as part of its Return to Football strategy and for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.

"Due to medical confidentiality, no specific details will be provided on individuals tested."

Clubs are required to test players at least once a week with an increase from 936 to 1055 between week one and two.

An unnamed Aberdeen player did test positive for coronavirus in week one, but he has since returned to full contact training.

Rangers travel to Pittodrie on August 1 as Celtic host Hamilton the following day.
