Celtic and Rangers players' behaviour impacted lower leagues, says Caledonian Braves star Ross McNeil

Caledonian Braves’ Ross McNeil believes Old Firm players’ behaviour has impacted the lower leagues.

The SFA extended the suspension of the Lowland League last week and McNeil believes high-profile breaches haven’t helped.

He said: “I don’t think that Rangers and Celtic are helping when incidents keep coming out.I think Celtic going to Dubai then bringing it back had a major effect on them shutting it down in the first place.

“I do understand that cases were high but whether I’m a Rangers or Celtic fan - that’s my opinion. Obviously there are rumours surrounding the Rangers players this weekend too and I do think it must impact decisions.

“I don’t think there have been many positive tests from our level of football. Everybody is in the same boat there is nothing that we can really do.”

The Lowland League remains suspended until March 1st . Proposals on the table to conclude the season include a split options that McNeil prefers.

He said:“I can see the league being played to a finish but not under normal circumstances. I think it will be split into two - a top half and a bottom half - and you’ll play each other once.

“We’d still need to play two teams from the top half first so we’d have 10 or 11 games left.”

“It’s achievable to play the whole season but you’re asking part-time boys to play two or three times a week.

“Boys would be asked to travel for a couple of hours, down to Gretna for example, and it’s asking too much with their jobs.”
