Celtic and Rangers-linked striker Ivan Toney subject to bid from Scottish club as interest hots up

Peterborough United have received multiple offers for highly-rated striker Ivan Toney – including one from a Scottish club.

Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony confirmed on Twitter that a Scottish side had submitted a bid for the forward.

Both Rangers and Celtic are said to be keen on the 24-goal hitman, but MacAnthony wouldn't say which club made the proposal.

However interest seems to be hotting up, with sides in the English Premier League and Championship submitting offers for the 24-year-old too.

MacAnthony also dismissed reports Toney was about to join Brentford in a £4million deal.

He admitted it was unlikely the frontman would still be a Peterborough player at the start of the new season, but said they wouldn't be letting him go for as little as £4million.

He tweeted: "Look, we have had multiple bids for him from Prem/Champ and one from Scotland. As expected. I won't go into who etc as that's private. As of today he is still our player."

In reference to the suggestion of a £4million fee, MacAnthony added: "Don't believe the figures quoted for any player. We would keep Ivan Toney rather than sell him for this. Cheers."

Toney has been a goalscoring phenomenon for Peterborough in England's League One, scoring 40 league goals in the last two seasons.

As a youngster he made his name in the EFL with Northampton Town before being signed by Newcastle. It didn't quite work out for him at the Magpies, and he ended up at Posh after loan spells at Shrewsbury Town, Wigan Athletic and Scunthorpe United.
