Celtic and Rangers legends spar over HORSES title metaphor as COVID-19 debate heats up

Celtic legend has ribbed former Rangers favourite Alex Rae over a social media post where he compared the SPFL title to a horse race.

The competition was stopped indefinitely yesterday after leagues across the world moved to shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Record Sport reveled this morning that the situation appears so dire that action is unlikely to get back underway until August .

And the debate has now turned to what will happen if the season is cancelled - should the current standings be considered final or should the season be voided?

Unsurprisingly, your answer to this question seems to split based on club loyalty and club legends are no different.

Ibrox title-winner Rae used a horse racing metaphor to question the logic that Celtic could be anointed champions when their title is far from mathematically certain.

He said: "If a horse race  over a mile starts and one horse is 10 lengths clear and the rest have fallen and the lead horse falls at the last hurdle do they give the lead horse the win as he was in front, does the bookies pay out as a winner? Asking for a friend?"

The tweet didn't go down well with Celtic fans and former player Simon Donnelly was quick to respond with a sharp point of his own.

He Tweeted: "You acknowledge (the) first horse is 10 lengths clear..."
