Celtic and Rangers interest in Thomas Robert "no surprise" to Airdrie director of football

Airdrie director of football Stuart Millar insists it is "no surprise" that Celtic and Rangers are among those interested in signing their star man Thomas Robert.

It was reported this morning that Celtic, in particular, have shown a keen interest in the Frenchman, with Rangers, Hibs and Hearts also keeping tabs on his displays for the Diamonds.

And now Millar has said the Monklands club are aware of the interest in the 20-year-old winger, admitting it is no surprise to him that clubs want to prise Robert - son of former Newcastle star Laurent - away from New Broomfield.

Millar said: "We are aware a number of clubs are monitoring Thomas Robert's situation, which is no great surprise considering the impact the young lad has had in a short space of time at our club, winning both our club and divisional player of the month awards."

Robert, who signed for the League One club from Montpellier in the summer, has scored three goals in 11 appearances for the Diamonds and provided two assists in the league.
