Renato Tapia in Celtic and Rangers transfer link but face fight from Spain and Mexico

Rangers and Celtic are both interested in out-of-contract Feyenoord midfielder Renato Tapia, according to a report from the Netherlands.

The Peru defensive midfielder's De Kuip deal runs out this summer and he won’t be extending his stay in Rotterdam.

That has piqued the interest of both Glasgow clubs according to Voetbal International - but they may face a fight from elsewhere for his signature.

La Liga side Real Betis have also been linked with the 24-year-old.

And Feyenoord rebuffed an attempt to sign Tapia from Cruz Azul under Pedro Caixinha last year - but the Mexico City club are likely to have rekindled their desire to bring the Peruvian back to the Americas.

They're not the only side from across the Atlantic interested, as Argentinian giants Boca Juniors have also previously expressed an interest.

Tapia is a defensive-minded midfielder who can also slot in at centre-back.

He has played in the Champions League and Europa League for Feyenoord and sampled Ibrox back in September's 1-0 defeat to Rangers.

Born in Lima, he moved to FC Twente on his 18th birthday and made a €2.5 switch to his current side in January 2016.

Tapia has played 53 times for his national side despite his young age, including two appearances in the 2018 World Cup.

He has also taken part in two Copa Americas and was integral in last year's incredible run to the final where Peru were beaten by Brazil.
