Celtic and Rangers in Europa League fixture quandary as UEFA scheduling forces clash

One of Celtic or Rangers could be forced to move a Europa League game to a Wednesday night after both clubs were scheduled to play at home on the same night.

UEFA released their fixtures on Saturday morning but there was one that jumped out that could see the city rivals play in Glasgow on October 21.

It's something that is rarely allowed to happen given the police presence that is needed plus the impact it would have on public transport.

Rangers are due to face Brondby on match day 3 with an 8pm kick-off while at present, Celtic are scheduled to take on Ferencvaros at 5.45pm.

And that could result in either Steven Gerrard's men or Ange Postecoglou's side being forced to move their match to the Wednesday night to avoid a clash.

It is something that happened in the playoff round of the tournament when Celtic took on AZ Alkmaar on the Wednesday before Rangers faced Alashkert on the Thursday.

It also happened to Rangers when they took on Braga in the 2019/20 tournament. They were drawn to play away in Portugal in the second leg and that was moved to the Wednesday night with Porto also at home on the Thursday.
