Celtic and Rangers hailed by Rudi Garcia as Lyon boss explains why 'high level' opponents are perfect fit

Lyon boss Rudi Garcia has expressed his delight in securing "fantastic" Celtic and Rangers for pre-season friendlies next week.

The Glasgow pair travel to France for warm-up games ahead of the new term and Garcia insists his side faces tough games ahead.

Rangers face Lyon first at the Groupama Stadium with Celtic taking on the French giants two days later, with both clubs also facing Nice in the tournament.

Lyon face a busy schedule after they play the Old Firm - they face PSG in the French League Cup Final at the end of the month and then Juventus in the second leg of their Round of 16, Champions League tie in Turin.

And Garcia is determined to field his strongest team against Neil Lennon and Steven Gerrard's sides as warm-ups for their two crunch games.

He said: "Preparation is essential and no friendly games will be played.

"Playing against Rangers and Celtic, two high-level teams in Scotland, is exactly what we are looking for.

"They are two fantastic opponents for us at Groupama Stadium, even if, unfortunately, we will not be able to play with as many supporters as we wanted."

Lyon will allow 5,000 of their own fans into their stadium for both games with strictly no away supporters.
