Celtic and Rangers find out Betfred Cup dates

A plan has been confirmed for the 2020/21 Betfred Cup.

The tournament, which was won by Celtic last season, is starting later this time out because of the shutdown which has seen no competitive football played in Scotland since early March.

The Scottish Premiership season will begin on August 1, and now it's been revealed that the Betfred Cup will start two months later.

According to reporter Stephen McGowan, the first match will be played on Tuesday October 6.

The quarter-finals will be played on Tuesday 15, Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 December, with the semi-finals going ahead on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January.

The final will be played on Sunday 28 February.

Celtic will be aiming to win the trophy for a fifth successive season. They beat Rangers 1-0 at Hampden in December thanks to a Christopher Jullien goal, with Fraser Forster saving a penalty from Alfredo Morelos.

Neil Lennon's men begin their league campaign on Sunday August 2 against Hamilton Accies at Celtic Park. Steven Gerrard's side get underway the previous day on Saturday August 1 at Pittodrie against Aberdeen.
