Celtic and Rangers fans furious as David Turnbull and Nathan Patterson left out of Scotland squad

Celtic and Rangers fans have both been left scratching their head after David Turnbull and Nathan Patterson were missing from the Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Steve Clarke omitted the Old Firm pair as he named the national side's squad for the triple-header against Austria, Israel and Faroe Islands.

Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Christie, John Fleck, John McGinn and Callum McGregor are among the midfielders selected by Clarke instead of Celtic rising star Turnbull who has been in impressive form this season.

Rangers prospect Patterson has admirably filled in for James Tavernier in recent weeks and looks to be the ideal solution to Scotland's problem area at right-back, but Clarke opted for the more experienced Stephen O'Donnell and Liam Palmer.

His recent coronavirus breach could have had a bearing on the Scotland manager's decision, however, as there is a good chance he could miss the remainder of the season with an SFA hearing scheduled on March 25.

But Rangers fans weren't happy to see the youngster left out of the squad.

@kyleRC_ said: "Have a word with them for no picking Nathan Patterson."

@youboyinblue added: "It’s a joke to me that Patterson isn’t in there!."

@Allygraham2008 tweeted: "Patterson should have been there."

@MichalL030 said: "Patterson was robbed."

And the feeling was mutual with Celtic supporters over Turnbull's omission.

@aboutceltic said: "Justice for Turnbull."

@eh_hoops added: "Turnbull should be there too ffs."

@SttuartG tweeted: "No Turnbull is a shocker imo, Clarke out."

@RyanStevenF said: "The fact Fleck gets in over Turnbull, wow."
