Celtic and Rangers European coefficient boost as Scottish sides outdo giants

Celtic are set to be ranked above the likes of Inter, Marseille and Galatasaray in the UEFA coefficients while Rangers return to the top 100 clubs in Europe.

The Premiership top two have both advanced to the last 32 of the Europa League, giving a boost to the Scottish coefficient.

As things stand our top flight will get an extra Champions League place from 2021-22, with the Premiership to move into Europe's top 15.

It's not just the league that's set to rise up the rankings though, with both Celtic and Rangers receiving a boost in the club coefficients.

The Hoops are went into the season level in 46th place in the standings, which are calculated over a five-year average.

Thanks to their performances this season though Neil Lennon's side are set to rise up the rankings though.

While they remain in 46th place as things stand, they're just half a point behind Dynamo Kiev and one behind Viktoria Plzen, both of whom are already out of Europe.

FC Copenhagen are two points ahead, so Celtic can close that gap by knocking them out of the Europa League in their last 32 tie.

With the current situation the Hoops would move ahead of Italian giants Inter, with the likes of Marseille, Galatasaray and seven-time European champions Milan below them too.

They'll move up to 37th place for 2021 as things stand.

Rangers currently sit 112th but they look set to return to Europe's top 100.

As things stand Steven Gerrard's side will rise to 95th place in the five-year average for 2021.

Continued good performances will only see them rise in subsequent seasons, as the five-year average currently includes seasons without European football and just 0.25 points from 2017-18 when they were knocked out of the Europa League in the first round by Progres Niederkorn.
