Rangers have been tipped to reach the Europa League last 32 - but their rivals Celtic will fail to reach the knockout phase.
Both sides will begin their European campaigns on Thursday as the Hoops host Milan and Steven Gerrard's men travel to Belgium to face Standard Liege.
Celtic are in a tough group with the Italian giants, Lille and Sparta Prague, while Rangers were drawn against Benfica, Lech Poznan and Liege.
Both clubs have aspirations of reaching the knockout round, but what's the likelihood of that happening?
It's impossible to know for definite, but FiveThirtyEight has used a specific formula to predict the probability of it happening by crunching the numbers.
Rangers have been given a 55% chance to reach the next round (21% to finish first, 34% to finish second) however Benfica are favourites with an 85% chance of coming out of the group (61% to finish first, 24% to finish second).
But the Light Blues have an advantage over Lech Poznan and Standard Liege who are the two sides being tipped to crash out of the group. The Polish side have a 32% chance (9% to finish first, 23% to finish second), while the Belgians have a 28% chance to qualify for the knockout round (8% to top the group, 20% to finish runner-up).
Meanwhile, Celtic have it all to do to qualify from their group as Milan and Lille have been predicted to be the top dogs.
The Hoops have a 44% chance of reaching the last 32 (17% to finish first, 27% as runner-up), but Milan are given a 79% probability to qualify for the next stage (51% as group winners, 28% to finish second).
The French side have a 62% chance to be victorious (28% to end up first, 34% to earn second place), while Prague have a low 14% chance to make it out (4% to finish first, 11% as runners-up).
How it works
Before the numbers for the overall competition have been decided, a team's SPI (Soccer Power Index) needs to be calculated. This is basically the overall strength of a team.
The SPI is decided through a range of data analysed from statistics including expected goals for and against (offensive and defensive rating), competition and strength of league and how a club performs in the transfer market.
Once a club's SPI has been determined, each individual match in a competition (e.g. Europa League) is predicted. These findings allow the index to run a simulation to work out the probability for the overall tournament.
