Celtic and Rangers Colts to join SPFL back on the agenda ahead of fresh reconstruction talks

The prospect of Celtic and Rangers Colts joining the SPFL for the season after next will be discussed at a key league reconstruction meeting on Friday.

Several attempts to rejig the structure of Scottish football have been kicked into touch with a host of proposals emerging in the wake of the bitter season-ending vote that called time on the 19/20 season.

The previous proposal of 12-12-10-10 has been on the table before and that would see Colts teams for Celtic and Rangers joining League Two and the ripple effect would carry all the way up to the Championship where two extra teams would join Scotland's second tier.

Other proposals that have been mooted included a set-up that would eventually see the SPFL increase to a 48-team set-up with 12 teams in every one of the four leagues.

The Glasgow giants' second sides will take part in the Lowland League this season with many sceptics against the proposal raising concerns after it was rubber-stamped.

STV's Raman Bhardwaj states clubs will meet on Friday and if backed then Rangers and Celtic Colts could join the Scottish football pyramid at the start of the 21/22 season.
