Celtic and Rangers Colts League Two plan thwarted as reconstruction proposal is rejected

The latest attempt at restructuring the SPFL to allow Rangers and Celtic’ s Colt teams into the lower leagues has been blocked.

The Glasgow giants have entered B teams into this season’s Lowland League, although they won’t be promoted should either of them finish top.

And any future prospect of joining the league ranks has been thwarted for now.

Several attempts to gain access to the bottom level of the SPFL have been rejected over the years.

An SFA and SPFL Innovation plan was put together for the start of the 2022/23 season.

It would have seen six clubs added to League Two over the next three years.

However it has again been knocked back at the indicative vote stage.

A statement said there was support for the proposal but "the combined set of proposals fell significantly short of the backing required to merit bringing forward a written resolution."

Therefore, the proposals will not proceed to a vote.

An SPFL spokesman said: “We would like to thank the members of the Innovation Group - Stewart Robertson, Gerry Britton, Steve Brown, Iain McMenemy and George Fraser - for their hard work and commitment in putting together such detailed proposals.
