Celtic and Rangers among clubs taking part in social media project to find missing people

Celtic and Rangers are among 50 clubs that have signed up for an initiative to help find missing young people.

The project will see football clubs from across Europe use their social media to help trace missing people.

Celtic and Rangers have joined Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham in the UK clubs taking part in the initiative, reports the BBC.

The initiative, called 'Football Cares' will launch on May 25 - International Missing Children's Day.

It is inspired by Italian football club Roma, who have shown videos of missing children during player signings for the past two seasons.

Six children have been found through the scheme so far.

The new project is being supported by Fifa and the European Club Association.

The European Club Association said: "With the huge following and global reach that these clubs boast, we hope that someone, somewhere might recognise one of the missing children in the videos so they can be reunited with their loved ones."
