Celtic and Motherwell hero Scott McDonald slams SPFL over Helicopter Sunday birthday tweet

Motherwell and Celtic hero Scott McDonald has slammed the SPFL's official Twitter account after a birthday message using a clip of his famous goal that handed Rangers the title on 'Helicopter Sunday' was used.

The Aussie striker celebrates his 37th birthday today, but he was far from happy when he was tagged in the post highlighting his 2005 strike, which ended Celtic's hopes of winning the title on the final day of the season.

McDonald, who went on to play for the Hoops between 2007-2010, said: "On my birthday you use click bait and likes and not for the first year either. You have plenty in the archive guys time to dust them off. Thanks for the birthday wishes I guess."

One Motherwell fan took exception to the former Fir Park favourite becoming annoyed about a memorable goal and famous win over the Hoops.

McDonald replied: "Please don't take offence the goals are part of my history at M'well the point behind what I'm saying is the tweet is put out to cause controversy and attracts other fans, more so that have no association with me. Put another Well goal on that'd be great."
