Celtic and Aberdeen handed new fixture date as postponed Premiership clash rearranged

Celtic and Aberdeen's postponed Premiership clash has been set for a new date.

The clubs were originally poised to meet in August before Covid-19 protocol breaches led to the match being called off.

With a packed schedule to contend with, the fixture has since remained outstanding.

But now the SPFL have rearranged the game and it will now take place at Celtic Park on Wednesday, February 17 with a 7pm.

A Tweet from Aberdeen's official account read: "The @SPFL have this afternoon confirmed that our outstanding match against Celtic at Celtic Park will be played on Wednesday 17th February- kick off 7pm."

The match is one of three Celtic have in hand over league leaders Rangers.

Another, at home St Mirren, was postponed due to the Hoops' outstanding 2019/20 Scottish Cup commitments.

That encounter will now take place on Wednesday, March 3 at 7.45pm.

The Ibrox side top the table by 16 points, a deficit Neil Lennon 's side are desperate to cut in their bid to secure 10 consecutive titles.

He hopes Sunday's quadruple Treble clincher against Hearts can galvanise his team for the chase.

Lennon said: "You’re hoping a big burden of the pressure is off them and they can play more freely with less anxiety. We need to chip away at winning games and find our consistency. There’s no doubt it’s a fantastic achievement and it’s given them a huge psychological lift.

"They’ve completed one part of what was required of us and we have to dig deep now to claw back a big deficit but it’s not beyond us. We have to find consistency in performances and the players know that.

"We’ve no problems scoring goals, defensively we need to definitely improve. People can say what they like, we know we have to improve in certain areas for us to be as successful as we can be."

"I don’t think our form’s been as good as it can be. We’ve drawn too many and that needs to be rectified. We need to start winning games. We’ve won another Treble so we can park that now and we can fully focus as a group on what lies ahead of us."
