Celine Dion cancels gigs over fears she contracted coronavirus

Celine Dion postponed two of her upcoming shows after fearing she had contracted coronavirus.

The 51-year-old singer was worried she had caught the respiratory virus after displaying "cold-like" symptoms and took the decision to call off her gigs in Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh.

Dion was tested for COVID-19, but the results came back negative with doctors diagnosing her with a common cold.

However, she decided to keep the concerts postponed, so she can rest up and get back to full fitness.

The singer’s management posted to her Facebook page: "On Monday night, a day after completing a six-show run in the New York area, Celine began feeling the symptoms of a common cold.

"The symptoms persisted into Tuesday, and her doctors instructed her to rest for the next 5-7 days. After testing her, the doctors concluded that her virus was not related to COVID-19."

In a statement, Celine explained why she decided to continue with the postponements, telling her fans: "I’m so sorry for disappointing my fans in Washington DC and Pittsburgh, I hope everyone understands."

The cancellations will mean that Celine will have at two weeks rest before performing again.

The highest profile celebrity to have been struck down by coronavirus so far is Hollywood legend Tom Hanks.

The 63-year-old tested positive for the virus along with his wife Rita Wilson, while he was filming an Elvis Presley biopic in Australia.

He broke the news to his followers on social media, saying that he and his wife were now in isolation as they battle the virus with the help of medics Down Under.
