Celia Holman Lee says Irish women should dress to suit their body type and has ditched short skirts

Irish style icon Celia Holman Lee said that she rejects the idea of women needing to 'dress for their age' but still covers up certain body parts.

The former model, 71, said that she has ditched any sleeveless clothing and skirts that are above the knee as she has gotten older.

Speaking to RSVP, Celia explained that it is entirely up to the individual to dictate how they want to dress, but said it is all about dressing for your body type and highlighting your best assets.

“I think it is entirely up to the woman herself. I do dress a little bit more for my age simply because ageing has taken over my neckline, my skin, my arms, my legs.

Celia who is now a grandmother-of-five continued: “I do that so I will look much, much better than going with a dress that’s above my knee, it wouldn’t work for me because the skin tone has changed. I won’t go sleeveless because no matter how good I feel my arms may be, the skin tone has changed.

“I won’t wear a big plunging neckline unless it's the evening and I’m going somewhere with good lighting - where the lights are not like the sun!

“I love my body, but the parts that I don’t love, I want to keep to myself [laughs]. Everything I love I’m happy to showcase. So if you want to call that dressing appropriately, but to me dressing appropriately is a bit old-fashioned.

“I’ve been saying this for a hundred years, it really comes down to dressing for the body you have and emphasising your good points and minimising your not-so-good points, it’s not necessarily about age”.

Celia has been modelling since she was 15 and was the most sought after Irish face of the 70s and 80s. The stunning Limerick native still runs one of Ireland’s leading model agencies, The Holman Lee Agency.
