Celebs who don't use their real names from Brad Pitt to Tess Daly after Rylan bombshell

Celebrity Gogglebox fans were baffled on Friday night when Rylan Clark-Neal's mum Linda used his real name.

And while the reality TV staple has opted to forego the name Ross and use Rylan instead, he's not the first celeb to do so.

From Hollywood A-listers to legendary musicians, veteran presenters to rising stars, famous faces about the globe are known by entirely different names to their friends and families.

For a number of reasons, many of the world's best loved celebrities have switched up their names - some of which might surprise you.

Dermot O'Leary

Dermot and wife Dee recently welcomed a son, delighting fans as they gave their newborn the adorable name Kasper.

X Factor and radio presenter Dermot decided to change his own name as he got into his current line of work, with many fans still being in the dark about what he's really called even after 20 years in the industry.

Sean Dermot Fintan O'Leary Jr is on his birth certificate, handily shortened to his more catchy public name.

Katie Price

Love is in the air for former glamour model Katie after she was snapped sharing a pash with handsome lad Carl Woods.

The mum of five is a special case on this list, because she's been through a number of different names over the years.

First, she went by her modelling alter-ego Jordan, before switching it up to Katie Price - taking the surname from stepdad Paul, who her mum married in the 80s.

But her full name is actually Katrina Amy Alexandria Alexis Infield.

Louis Walsh

Louis is one of many on this list opting to use his middle name as his first.

Michael Louis Vincent Walsh was welcomed into the world in the 1950s in his native Ireland.

Having ditched two of his four names during his work, Louis' gone on to carve out an incredibly prestigious career in the music biz.

Brad Pitt

At once an enigmatic onscreen presence and a Hollywood A-list heartthrob, handsome Brad is actually called William.

Like Louis and Dermot, he opted to use his middle name in his career.

William Bradley Pitt's Tinsel Town career is still going strong, earning critical acclaim and a number of awards in recent months for his role in Quentin Tarantino flick Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

It's been reported that Brad introduces himself as William when he's flirting.

Tess Daly

For years, fans had assumed Tess was short for Tessa or Theresa, but the Strictly presenter was born Helen Elizabeth Daly.

The show's fate for 2020 is currently uncertain amid coronavirus, with the BBC reportedly trying to figure out a way to get it off the ground safely.

Olivia Colman

The Crown and Fleabag actress has been raking in the roles and awards in recent years.

She's played two queens - Elizabeth II and Anne - in the past year, and her real name is fittingly posh.

Denise Welch

Her actual first name is Jacqueline, which she ditched when she first started acting.

She's best known for Corrie and Waterloo Road.

Gigi Hadid

Gigi recently shared her baby joy with the world as she announced she's expecting her first child with beau Zayn Malik.

While many models change their names, Gigi went with a name only her family called her when she was young.

Her full name is Jelena Noura Hadid, fully embracing Gigi at school when a teacher kept confusing her with a girl named Helena.

Miley Cyrus

Miley - or Destiny Hope Cyrus - was branded 'Smiley' as a girl by famous dad Billy Ray Cyrus, on account of her permanent grin.

This evolved to Miley, and gave her the stage name she's used since she was a child star.

Miley's now a bona fide pop star, and in 2008 legally changed her name.

Helen Mirren

British national treasure Helen was born before her dad changed their last name from Mironoff to Mirren in the 50s.

This meant she was born Ilyena Lydia Mironoff.

She changed it to Helen when starting out in showbiz.

Elton John

This may well be the best known case on the list, but Elton John was not born Elton John.

Rather, he was Reginald Kenneth Dwight.

Elton is said to have pieced together his name during the early days of his long and incredibly illustrious music career.
