Celebrity Traitors star Alan Carr's 'giveaway habit' that could spell his downfall, expert reveals

Celebrity Traitors star Alan Carr has been exhibiting notoriously tell-tale signs that he’s a Traitor that could lead to his downfall, a body language expert has revealed.

The comedian, 49, was announced as a Traitor in the series premiere of the star-studded BBC show on Wednesday evening and went on to “murder” Paloma Faith in the subsequent episode.

His flustered demeanour and riotous one-liners have already spawned endless memes on social media, turning the presenter into the undisputed king of the series.

However, body language expert Martin Brooks has warned that Carr’s chaotic mannerisms - namely touching his hair and covering his face - are a clear giveaway that he’s lying to the Faithfuls.

Brooks exclusively told The Standard that Faithfuls should be looking out for “truth slips” such as “facial touching” and “self-comfort gestures”.

“Alan Carr exhibited these when feeling that strain about Paloma and how he had put her in that coffin, and he was touching his head and had his hands in his mouth, when that was being discussed,” he explained.

Brooks went on: “So watch out for facial touching with self-comfort gestures, touching the head, touching the face, putting their hands in the mouth, that kind of more nervous behaviour.

“Alan Carr’s already exhibited some of those.”

Brooks also pointed out some suspicious behaviour that fellow Traitor Jonathan Ross, 64, has been unintentionally displaying.

“We all know the saying, the eyes are the gateway to the soul,” he said.

“So rather than making eye contact when lying, people will tend to do what I call prolonged blinking, maybe looking down or maybe even covering their eyes altogether.

“Jonathan Ross has already exhibited this when some of the Traitors are being discussed.”

He elaborated: “When everybody else was looking around once the Traitors had been allocated, looking around to who might it be, he temporarily looked down and in looking down, your eyelids cover your eyes.”

Carr, Ross, and singer Cat Burns, 25, were all chosen to be Traitors by host Claudia Winkleman in the new series.

The Interior Design Masters host immediately bit his lip and suppressed a giggle when Winkleman tapped him on the shoulder during the blindfold ceremony — a reaction viewers said gave the game away.

Speaking afterwards, the Chatty Man star admitted he’s far from confident about his chances of going undetected.

“I have a sweating problem and I can’t keep a secret. What am I going to do?” he confessed. “It’s a weight burning on my shoulders, I’m so nervous.”

Alan even joked he was “worse than Linda!”, referencing series three contestant Linda Rands, who famously stared straight at Winkleman when she addressed the Traitors in front of the group.

Fans shared their scepticism on X, with one writing, “Alan Carr is gonna be the worst Traitor ever, so obvious,” while another joked: “Alan Carr is somehow going to vote himself as a Traitor at the roundtable.”

A third added: “Alan Carr having to bite his lip to stop laughing immediately — he has no hope whatsoever.”
