Celebrity Traitors fans convinced Alan Carr's 'fatal slip' at tense roundtable finally gave him away

Traitors fans think Alan Carr gave himself away by making a “huge mistake” at the latest roundtable.

The Chatty Man star has astounded viewers so far by being a convincing Traitor in the BBC competition despite his dramatic demeanour and giggly reactions.

However, fans think the 49-year-old comedian “shot himself in the foot” while sparring with rugby star Joe Marler during Thursday’s episode.

Carr was among the half of the contestants who was awarded a shield during the chess task earlier in the episode.

And the drama began at the roundtable later on, when former England rugby player Marler, 35, reiterated his view that Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry could be Traitors.

When Carr stepped in to deflect the attention back onto Marler, he made a serious misstep by forgetting he has a shield.

He began: “After my c**kup with Mark [Bonnar, who was banished] and also, I mean, the Traitors murder people who stick their head above the parapet...”

Kate Garraway pointed out: “But they didn't murder you overnight, did they?”

Marler added with a serious expression: “They also won't murder you tonight.”

Carr looked taken aback, saying: “What?”

The befuddled response was met with confusion from the other players as an uneasy silence stretched out.

Marler eventually clarified: “You've got a shield.”

Carr let out a sigh of relief and exclaimed, “Oh, yeah!” prompting an exasperated Marler to cover his face with his hand and say: “I give up. I give up.”

Although the Interior Design Masters host’s blunder was not noticed at the table, some of the other contestants later began to question whether he was Faithful.

When Marler raised the situation, comedian Lucy Beaumont agreed that a Faithful would remember if they had a shield.

Viewers at home were baffled by Carr’s forgetfulness, with one writing on X: “This is so funny because no other contestant would get away with this, but people will just think ‘oh it’s fine, it’s just Alan Carr.’”

“Not Alan messing up, he forgot he had a shield,” another added.

“That Freudian slip from Alan Carr is gonna cost him over the next two episodes,” a third wrote, while someone else agreed: “Ohhh Alan you’ve made a huge mistake.”

Another fan predicted: “Alan has shot himself in the foot forgetting he had a shield and they’ll all jump on that and banish him.”

Someone else disagreed, writing: “I reckon he will get clocked but he will talk his way out of banishment because of his personality.

“Like he will probs say, ‘I know I got a shield darling I was just trying to explain people who speak up gets murdered regardless of shields that’s the pattern.’”

At the start of Thursday’s episode, actor Mark Bonnar was banished after a tied vote left his eviction to chance and comedian Joe Wilkinson was murdered by the Traitors. Later on, Stephen Fry was banished at the roundtable.

At the very end of the episode a face-to-face murder was teased among three of the players.

Comedian and actor Nick Mohammed, Lucy Beaumont and Kate Garraway were invited to meet host Claudia Winkleman back at the chessboard set of the task from earlier in the dead of night, where one of them is to be murdered by the Traitors during next week’s episode.
