Celebrity therapist says 15 stars have come to him with mental health problems

Reality star turned therapist Ron Copey says he's treated 15 stars who have struggled with mental health problems after becoming famous.

Ron appeared on BBC show Castaway before going on to become a counsellor.

And he says that a number of stars who've sought his help have become suicidal or ended up with addictions as they struggled to come to terms with their new-found fame.

Love Island star Mike Thalassitis recently took his own life, as did Sophie Gradon, who also appeared on the dating show.

Prodigy star Keith Flint also recently took his own life.

Ron says he became a therapist after going through his own hell on show Castaway, with his relationship breaking down following his short-lived reality fame.

He told the Daily Star : "The recent suicides have been waiting to happen. I've had people calling me contemplating suicide. I have clients I am currently very worried about.

"Many have struggled with depression, anxiety, or developed an addiction or seen their relationship fail - and every single one has had trouble holding down a job.

"People don't realise they're fodder to make programmes. Programmes often pick people who are good TV but are particularly vulnerable. My clients have been from all sorts of reality shows, including Big Brother ."

Ron said he's been contacted by around 15 well-known names.

He has helped some clients get into addiction recovery programmes.

He says reality shows should have someone involved in the casting process to carry out proper psychological tests on perspective stars.

After Mike's death, some people pointed fingers at Love Island bosses, saying they didn't offer proper after care to their stars, but ITV said they do everything they can to care for the people coming out of the show.
