Celebrity photographers raise £80,000 with limited edition prints to protect frontline healthcare workers

Celebrity photographers have come together to raise more than £80,000 for masks, visors and gowns for frontline health workers fighting coronavirus.

Star-studded snappers who have been rallied by GiveWorld for GlobalGiving's coronavirus relief fund include Glen Luchford, Walter Iooss, Sam Taylor-Johnson, Jimmy Chin, Jesse Frohman, Mikael Jansson, Paul Nicklen, Norman Reedus and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

They are selling limited edition prints for $85 each, including one of the late US basketball legend Kobe Bryant, with donations helping doctors, nurses and emergency workers worldwide to get personal protective equipment (PPE).

Shortages of PPE have been under scrutiny in recent weeks, with more than 70 medics known to have died after contracting coronavirus in Britain alone. Some of their grieving relatives have blamed the lack of PPE in hospitals.

GiveWorld wants to “slow the spread of the coronavirus and give communities on the front lines of the crisis the resources they need to act quickly and protect their most vulnerable”.

Proceeds from the campaign will also go towards delivering essential items to low-income families and elderly people in quarantined cities and refugee camps.

The stars, who plan to add more names to the list in the coming weeks, also say money will help feed children who rely on free school meals.

Coronavirus cases globally have almost hit 2.8 million, with the death toll nearing 200,000.
