Celebrity nightclub Chinawhite is set to open a new venue in Newcastle, it has emerged.
The famed London nightclub has been a hip hangout for everyone from rock stars to royalty, movie and sporting stars including the likes of Kate Moss, Drake, Prince Harry, Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Cruise.
Now, 21 years after the brand first opened its doors to the A-listers of London, the firm’s managing director has said it plans to open in a listed building in Newcastle city centre next year.
In an interview, Chinawhite managing director James Spallone, said he had secured a site in the city.
He said: “It is a listed building that will require some renovation.
“We have done some basic plans. The idea is to start the build next July and be ready for October, but planning can be difficult.”
It is understood that Chinawhite is one of a number of upmarket international brands that are in discussions with Newcastle leisure, care and property group Malhotra Group Plc.
The Newcastle based developer has a large portfolio of listed properties in Newcastle city centre, including Grey Street Hotel, which has recently undergone huge investment to create a new nightclub and luxury restaurant.
Chinawhite’s move to the North East comes a year after it expanded into a second site, in Manchester’s Milton Hall, following the closure of a franchise operation in Belfast.
The famous nightclub first opened in the capital’s Soho in 1998 where it quickly became popular with models and footballers, but moved to Fitzrovia in 2008 when the original base was sold.
Rebranded to Libertine by Chinawhite, the new name has attracted the next generation of star clubbers, including Kendall Jenner and Lewis Hamilton.
It is believed the Newcastle venue will follow the model of the Manchester venue, which has proved to be a success almost a year after opening last November.
