Celebrity Mayoralty

If it wasn't in the Daily Telegraph, which surely has a hotline to Boris Johnson and, it seems, Lord Brocket, there'd be reason to doubt the word of the ex-con peer, who once planted several expensive vintage cars in his stately's garden, claimed the insurance and went on to become a reality TV star.

As it is, I'm delighted to learn that Boris has asked Charlie Brocket to come and talk to his officials about London Transport. It says so here.

The irony and potential criticism here write themselves: there's the inevitable accusation of old Etonian back scratching; there's the idea that a man most famous for transport-related criminality is having anything to do with London Transport; and there's the crazy image of these two unlikely TV celebs breaking bread and discussing what to do with the tube.

Can it be true?
