Celebrity MasterChef fans fume as Channel 5 News announces winner minutes before Christmas special starts on BBC One

Channel 5 News has apologised to fans of Celebrity MasterChef after mistakenly announcing the winner of last night's festive special BEFORE the show had started over on BBC One.

The bulletin, which went out just before the Christmas Cook Off special was broadcast, revealed comedian Judi Love as the champion.

She saw off the likes of reality star Joey Essex, Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Oti Mabuse, ex-footballer Neil Ruddock, and national treasure Su Pollard to win the Golden Whisk award.

A statement posted to Twitter by the Channel 5 News account said: "We would like to say sorry for mistakenly announcing the winner of BBC1’s Celebrity Masterchef before it was revealed on the programme tonight.

"Apologies to all fans of the show."

However, some MasterChef viewers were far from understanding.

"Channel 5 you idiots," fumed one on Twitter, while another added, "Ummm thanks @channel5_tv, just ruined #CelebrityMasterChef and it’s not even aired yet."

"Been waiting patently all day for this to start at 8pm," posted a third. "And then Channel 5 announces the winner at 7.58pm - absolutely livid."

Love, who was the fifth celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing this year, won BBC One’s first Celebrity MasterChef Christmas Cook-Off with a Caribbean-themed seasonal dinner.

The 41-year-old served a rolled turkey breast stuffed with jerk seasoning, served with parsnip puree, carrots, stuffing, roast potatoes, crispy turkey skin and a cranberry and scotch bonnet chilli jam.

Her dish was described by judge Gregg Wallace "nothing short of fantastic".
