Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls postponed due to coronavirus crisis

Reality survival series Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls has been pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Channel 4 show had been poised to start production on the new run next month.

However, according to The Sun, Bear Grylls won't be putting a group of celebrities through their paces for a while yet.

A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed to the paper: "Due to the current restrictions on travel the new series of Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls will be postponed.

"We've made this decision with the health and well-being of those involved in making the show as our utmost priority."

It is unknown which celebrities were due to take part but the paper says a source confirmed their "disappointment" to them.

There have been a number of beloved British shows that aren't going to be back on our screens for a while.

One of the other shows thrown into chaos is cooking show The Great British Bake Off.

A Love Productions spokesperson told Deadline: "We continue to monitor the situation and follow the advice of Public Health England and we will delay filming on Bake Off until it is safe to proceed."

The cameras typically begin rolling on the Channel 4 show between April and July, meaning the show's air date will likely also be delayed if social distancing measures remain in place for months yet.

The news comes after it was recently confirmed that Matt Lucas will replace Sandi Toksvig in the role of host opposite Noel Fielding.

Matt told us recently that he won't be sampling cheese any time soon.

"I really, really, really don’t like it," he admitted. "I have an intolerance to it – it makes me sick. I don’t like the taste or the smell. I can’t eat it – it makes me feel very ill."

Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood shall return as the judges for the baking hit.
