Celebrity Gogglebox: Shaun Ryder baffled by spelling of six-letter word on Countdown

Celebrity Gogglebox returned to our screens this week and fan favourites Shaun Ryder and Bez once again entertained viewers across the country.

The duo best known as members of Manchester bank The Happy Mondays are regulars on the TV commentary show, often making viewers laugh with their unique takes on the most shows on screen.

This week the two watched the first episode of Countdown with new host Anne Robinson at the helm and while anagram hunters are often perplexed by the show's challenging letter challenges, one of the answers presented a unique challenge for Shaun.

During the episode, one of the contestants, Shelly, managed to find the six-letter word "sliced".

While many viewers were impressed by the answer, she was soon trumped after her competition found an eight-letter word, "unsliced".

Most of the celebs were shocked at the surprisingly close answers, but Shaun was baffled that "sliced" was even possible.

"Slicet?" he said. "There's no T. How can it be slicet? There's no T there."

It took fellow band member Bez to explain his mistake, pointing out his accent was getting in the way of his spelling.

"There's no T in 'sliced', mate," Bez explained.

But Shaun was still confused. "I didn't see a T there."

Bez answered: "There's no T in sliced. It's the way you say it."

The penny finally dropped and Shaun realised his accent was getting in the way of his spelling before the pair went back to enjoying the show.

One viewer took to Twitter to talk about the "heartwarming" moment between the two friends.

Sarah (@Mamamamememe2) said: "‘It’s just the way you say it mate’ Bez explaining that you don’t spell sliced with a T is to his friend Shaun, my friends, is the most heartwarming TV I’ve seen all week #CelebrityGogglebox #bez #shaun "
