Celebrity Gogglebox fans stunned by 'brutal' and awkward first date

Tonight's instalment of Celebrity Gogglebox had its stars, and viewers, cringing over an episode of First Dates.

In the episode, celebrities watched in mutual shock and horror as a dating hopeful brought his mum along for the date.

Stars Martin and Roman Kemp were mortified by the date, while other Goggleboxers were baffled when the young man ate his burger with a knife and fork.

His date compared him to a child.

When the young woman was asked if she'd like a second date with him, she bluntly said: "No."

Fans were equally stunned by the date, branding it "brutal".

Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One fan said: "Oh man this #FirstDates thing with the guy’s mother coming along too is BRUTAL".

Catherine said: "Who the hell brings their MOTHER on a first date?"

Liam commented: "'It’s like being out with a child' - it’s been a while but I’m gonna say that’s not a good sign."

Anne said: "Oh who the heck would take mum on a date - would be an absolute turn off- need his mum to cut his food up for him".

Another fan, also called Liam, added: "Eating a burger with a knife and fork should be a crime".

The spin-off of the phenomenally popular reality series sees celebrities including Stacey Solomon, Joe Swash, Denise Van Outen, Nick Grimshaw, KSI, Bez, Nicola Adams, Zoe Ball and more tune in to the latest telly offerings.

The original series was inspired by hit British sitcom The Royle Family and has amassed a legion of fans.

*Celebrity Gogglebox airs Fridays on Channel 4 at 9pm
