Time may have been called on the Lady-and-the-Tramp-on-meth tale that was his relationship with Kate Moss, but Pete Doherty wants you to know that he still has so much to offer.
To wit: he has taken the role of Amy Winehouse's drugs counsellor. Cheering enough for ya? Presumably Courtney Love was unavailable.
Anyway, in a totally encouraging mini-interview with today's Sun - the inevitable fee remains tantalisingly undisclosed - the Babyshambles singer explains that since her old man got banged up on charges of perverting the course of justice, he has been speaking to Amy almost daily.
"[Amy] realises how much they have to lose if it goes on," Pete explains, suggesting that sustained drug abuse has left him unable to do anything but spout random Trisha homilies. "They are going to lose each other if it carries on. Love, music and melody is the way forward."
Mm. Well, a judge will be the judge of that, but in the meantime Pete is requested to be more mindful of his What Would Rimbaud Do? wristband, and consider sparing us these daily breaches of confidence with his own enablers in Fleet Street.
