Celebrity Edinburgh chef's top venue becomes Scotland's newest five-star restaurant with rooms

An Edinburgh star chef, who has recently opened an exciting seafood restaurant and bar on Queensferry Road, is celebrating a new achievement with his recent addition to a Fife venue.

Dean Banks is the man behind the capital's restaurant and bar, Dulse, which opened last month, offering a range of dishes from Scottish seafood to classic dishes modernised with eastern fusion.

Now, the well-respected chef's Haar restaurant in St Andrews has been renovated to add six guest rooms, offering diners to stay overnight to allow time to enjoy the venue - and the beautiful coastal city.

Having just unveiled the new development at the end of last month, Haar has already been recognised by AA inspectors and granted a respectable five-star rating, making the venue Scotland's newest Five-star restaurant with rooms.

Delighted with the news, Dean said: "This is a huge achievement and one we are very proud of. It's unusual to open with two rosettes, we were really pleased to have that kind of accolade right as we launched the new Haar St Andrews.

"We always intended to be a restaurant with rooms, the whole concept is that guests are coming to my house for the evening and staying overnight, so the rooms are an essential part of the vision.

"It has taken us a little bit of time to get them JUST right, but I feel it has been worth the wait – and it seems the AA do too.

"We are so happy that Haar St Andrews is now Scotland's latest five-star restaurant with rooms according to the prestigious AA guide, and we look forward to showing our diners and guests why they have rated us so highly."

Haar has been a huge success since opening late last year, over the festive season - and the new rooms have been popular with the visitors, despite only launching this June.

Dean said: "It's a tough time for the whole industry, so things like this really mean a lot – that sign people appreciate the effort we are going to. Thank you to our loyal St Andrews supporters, and we look forward to welcoming you again soon."

The tasting menu at Haar starts at £75, with rooms priced from £250. You can book your summer staycation at the St Andrews venue here.
