Celebrity Cruises is the latest cruise line to launch UK sailings for summer

Celebrity Cruises is the latest company to join a line-up of cruise lines offering UK sailings for summer, with a series of glamorous itineraries around the British Isles from July.

As for its vaccine policy? Guests aged 18 or over will need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 while under 18s will need to show proof of a negative PCR test in order to be able to board.

Sailings will kick off from July 3 and will all sail on round-trips from Southampton onboard ship Celebrity Silhouette, which underwent a multi-million-pound refurb last year complete with updates to its restaurants, spa, staterooms, and a redesigned casino.

There will be six- to eight-night itineraries calling to the likes of the Jurassic Coastline, the Scottish Highlands, and cities including Belfast, Glasgow and Liverpool.

Bookings open from April 6 on celebritycruises.com and packages will include Wi-Fi, drinks and service charges.

Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said: "We’re delighted to be returning to Southampton after over a year away.

"We are truly committed to the UK market and can’t wait to welcome guests back onboard. What could be better than a new luxury ship, ready to take guests on a journey around one of the world’s most beautiful and impressive coastlines? Not only is this extremely significant to us as a business but also to the local tourism industry."

Since the pandemic broke, cruise holidays have been brought to a halt due to ongoing travel restrictions around the world.

As a result the majority of cruise lines have been forced to temporarily pause operations or cancel a number of sailings.

Although it's not yet clear what the landscape looks like for cruise holidays with ongoing restrictions - the Foreign Office currently advises against cruise ship travel during the pandemic - there is a glimmer of hope for Brits with the news that domestic sailings could resume from May as part of England's lockdown roadmap.

The government's Global Travel Taskforce is due to look into international travel and update Boris Johnson in April.

New coronavirus laws make it illegal to travel unless it's for one of the permitted reasons, with rule-breakers facing fines of up to £5,000. (A holiday is not on the list of valid reasons).
